Workers made aware of self-employment in horticulture
Jamshedpur, May 9: The migrant labourers who are returning back to their hometowns are being kept under strict vigil as administration has advised several of them to be home quarantined. Even after proper screening at Tatanagar railway station and bus stops, the administration is keeping a close watch at quarantine centres. �

About 1187 mostly from West Singhbhum returned by a special train to Tatanagar and were taken by buses arranged by district administration to their homes following social distancing norms and other protocols like wearing masks.

West Singhbhum deputy commissioner Arava Rajkamal said that those home quarantine have been marked and the police team will keep a vigil on them.
�We spoke to some of workers who returned from Morbi. All the migrants would be kept in home quarantine as Morbi was in the green zone,� Rajkamal.

Incidentally, West Singhbhum district administration distributed pamphlets to all the migrant workers informing about self-employment in horticulture and fruit farming with help of rural department of Jharkhand which would not make them leave for other states for employment.

� We want to stop migratation of workers from our state. We are distributing details on self-employment. Horticulture is an applied science dealing with fruits, vegetables and ornamental flowers. It is an extremely diversified field with nearly unlimited career opportunities in a variety of job settings. A large number of jobs require knowledge and training in horticulture,� said another official.

He went on to add that the horticulture sector constituted nearly 20 per cent of agricultural GDP and contributes 4 per cent in the national economy. As of today, horticulture is considered, one of the fastest growing sectors in agriculture and is a thrust area to stimulate agricultural growth, spurred by the changing domestic food habits towards more nutritious food and increasing overseas demand. In Kolhan too there are lot of opportunities.

Meanwhile, 115 persons stuck in Vellore in Tamil Nadu who had returned on a special train in Ranchi returned on a special bus to the city in the evening and after collection of their swabs at Loyola School in Bistupur they were sent to home quarantine.

Log distance buses have been arranged at the Tatanagar Station for taking the migrant workers to districts like Ranchi, Deoghar, Gumla, Chatra, Garhwa, Latehar, Palamau, West Singhbhum, Seraikela, Jamtara, Hazaribagh. The buses left for the respective districts with police escorts.
