Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered seed distribution for kharif crops all over the state within 15 days. He asked the agriculture department to launch an awareness programme on farming in a �mission mode� to ensure better results and growth in agriculture.
Soren, who held a review of various schemes being implemented in the state by the departments of agriculture, industry, social welfare and water resources, at his residential office on Friday, said Kisan Credit Card (KCC) had been made available to 20 lakh farmers of the state so far. The remaining 10 lakh farmers will get the KCC within the current financial year, he said.
The CM said the district level agriculture task force should be strengthened and made more active. He said the weekly meeting of the task force should be ensured all over the state.
Taking serious note of acidic land problems in the state, the CM said such land should be treated and made suitable for farming. He said the work of treatment of acidic land should be carried out as a mission. A target of converting 10 lakh hectare acidic land into cultivable land has been fixed by the state government, he said.
Soren said villagers should be linked to Krishak Mitras (companions of farmers) to get better results and create greater awareness among people on farming and finding solutions to various problems of agriculture.
The CM issued instructions to distribute agricultural implements worth Rs 15 crore among farmers. He said the current number of agricultural implement banks in the state was 170. The number will be increased to 1000 by the end of the current fiscal. By August, 500 such banks will be set up, he said.
Soren said deep boring facility will be provided to the farmers by using solar energy and implementation of various irrigation projects will be ensured. Canals will be constructed beside village roads so that water may be used for agriculture purpose.
