Special prayers on third Friday of Ramzan in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, May 24: �Religious activity associated with holy month of Ramzan was very much visible on Friday as devotees attended the special prayers at various mosques. The special prayers held in the evenings will continue till the end of Ramzan.

A few hotels made preparations to offer the �sehar� meal (predawn meal) too. Traders, both roadside businessmen and commercial shop owners made arrangements. At homes, the day turned out to be a busy one what with women racing against time to make last minute preparations for the �roza� (fast).

Ramzan is the Islamic month of prayers and fasting. They refrain from eating and drinking during the day, which, according to Islamic faith, is meant to teach them patience, spirituality, humility, and submissiveness to God.

Muslims believe Ramzan to be auspicious, as it is the month in which the first verses of the Koran were revealed to Prophet Mohammed.

Believers had long started preparations for welcoming the holy month by cleaning houses, prayer halls, and mosques and reserving more space for prayers in mosques.

Many Masjid has arranged spiritual discourses and speeches on the mosque premises during the month. Khatheebs, who lead the Friday prayers in the mosques, had urged believers to prepare mentally and physically for the fasting and prayers.
