Jamshedpur: The city unit of YUVA and KRIYA of New Delhi, both social organizations, jointly hosted a public awareness campaign at the Sakchi roundabout today, on the context of apathy and brutality towards women, girls and transgenders who have a right to be a part of the social mainstream. The program, �Nazaria Badlo Abhiyan� had the presence of many social workers from all fields to express their views on the eradication of social ills unleashed on women, some of them being very brutal.
Eminent social worker Anjali Bose noted with concern the atrocities unleashed on women, girls and transgenders. She said, �The society has to change its outlook towards women. Foetal killings and other atrocities on women is a blotch on society and is indeed disconcerting.�
YUVA secretary Barnali Chakraborty observed, �During festivals and rituals, women are projected as goddesses. Then why are they not treated as these goddesses? It is sad and ironical that the mothers and sisters tribe are looked upon as home runners and objects of baser desires. Respect towards women is a fundamental right and once society overhauls its views towards women, positive strides towards social development would become realities.�
Another respected social activist, Purabi Ghosh stated that women were not lagging behind in any field be they in the realms of science, flying airplanes, medicine as well as defense. �Women entrepreneurs are coming to the fore while many others are already leading in their fields. Even housewives are no longer restricted to the kitchens. They complete their household chores and participate in various social and earning activities. Women deserve the same respect that their male counterparts enjoy,� she added.
Theatre units PATH and Kaladhaam presented skits based on various burning social issues including the message of changing perspectives on women. Many people expressed their points of view, read out poetry and presented songs that endorsed the immediate change required to accept the rights of women in the social setup.
Among the huge crowd of women and men were Anita Sharma, Aparna Guha, Nita Bose, Rekha Mishra, Subrata Barua, Piyali Chakraborty, Sonali Sarkar Mitra, Surabhi Sharma, Ruby Nandi, Anjana Bhattacharya, Rahul Kumar, Arvind Tiwary, Gautam Gope, Tarun Kumar and Sandip Dey.
