Jamshedpur, Sept 19: In an attempt to revive the festive spirit in markets, counter the growing influence of online shopping, and promote local trade, the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) launched its “Chalo Chalein Bazaar” campaign on Friday.

The initiative also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vocal for Local.”

The campaign began with the unveiling of a poster at the office of SCCI.

Addressing the gathering, SCCI president Vijay Anand Moonka said that traditional businesses are severely affected by online trade, as consumers are increasingly lured by heavy discounts and prefer shopping from home. “This campaign is an effort to bring back the charm of markets and boost the morale of traders,” he said.

SCCI Vice President (Trade & Commerce) Anil Modi noted that young buyers, in particular, are drifting away from markets.

“Through posters, videos, and audio messages, we aim to encourage people to shop locally. In the next phase, selfie stands will be installed in key marketplaces to engage families,” he said.

Honorary secretary Manav Kedia, who conducted the program, added that families will be encouraged to click selfies at the stands and upload them on social media to inspire others to shop in local markets.

The trade body members and trade leaders also extended support to the campaign.

Distributors’ Association president Jugal Kishore Maheshwari said the initiative would strengthen emotional ties within society.

Jewellers’ Association President Vipin Bhai Adesara said it would create awareness and attract people back to markets.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by SCCI secretary Bharat Makani.

Senior office-bearers of the trade outfit , including vice- president Puneet Kauntia, treasurer CA Anil Ringasia, Binod Sharma, Harsh Bakrewal, Pranjal Sarawgi, Shravan Debuka, Mahesh Sanghi, and others, were present on the occasion.
