SER General Manager Inspects Adityapur Station, Satellite Status to Decongest Tatanagar

Jamshedpur: In a significant move to overhaul the railway infrastructure in the Kolhan region, the General Manager (GM) of South Eastern Railway (SER), Anil Kumar Mishra, conducted an inspection of the Adityapur Railway Station on Tuesday. The visit focused on reviewing the final preparations to transition Adityapur into a full-fledged ‘satellite station’ aimed at reducing the mounting operational pressure on the Tatanagar Junction.

Strategic Shift to Adityapur
During the inspection, the GM emphasized that the ever-increasing footfall and train traffic at Tatanagar necessitated a secondary terminal. By developing Adityapur as a satellite station, the Railways plans to shift the origin and termination points of several key trains.

Starting this month, four major trains—including the Dhanbad-Tatanagar Swarnrekha Express and the Hatia-Tatanagar Passenger—will now officially terminate at and originate from Adityapur. This shift is expected to free up platforms at Tatanagar for long-distance through-trains and reduce the bottleneck often experienced at the city’s primary railhead.

Infrastructure & Safety Review
Accompanied by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Chakradharpur and other senior officials, the GM inspected the newly constructed third line and reviewed the progress of the fourth line between Adityapur and Tatanagar.

Key highlights of the inspection included:

Passenger Amenities: The GM surveyed the new high-level platforms, waiting areas, and ticket counters at Adityapur, ensuring they are ready to handle the projected increase in passenger volume.

Operational Safety: A “window trailing” inspection was conducted to monitor the structural integrity of tracks, signaling systems, and overhead equipment (OHE).

Freight Efficiency: Officials confirmed that freight trains will begin utilizing the third line this month, which will further streamline passenger train schedules on the busy Howrah-Mumbai route.

Benefits for Commuters
While the move may require some residents of Jamshedpur to travel slightly further to Adityapur for certain trains, railway officials pointed out that it would lead to better punctuality and improved services. The upgradation of Adityapur includes a new Integrated Security System featuring CCTV surveillance and luggage scanners, bringing it on par with the safety standards of Tatanagar.

The GM directed officials to expedite the remaining minor works and ensured that the transition would be seamless for passengers. “The transformation of Adityapur is not just about a station; it is a vital cog in the modernization of the entire Chakradharpur Division,” a senior official noted during the visit.
