Jamshedpur, April 3: The spike in COVID-19 cases continued in Jamshedpur with 101 new infections reported on Saturday, April 3, taking the total tally to 1,91,71 mark. With new infections on the higher side, the caseload continues to witness a surge and Jamshedpur now has more than 500 active cases.
The hotspot areas of the Steel City Mango, Kadma, Sonari and Sakchi continue to witness a virulent spread of COVID.
Of the 2158 samples tested in Jamshedpur on Saturday 101 positives were reported.
The number of active cases went up to 549 and the total tally to 19171. One death was reported on Saturday, taking the toll to 377. After a gap of six days another coronavirus death has been reported in Jamshedpur. Earlier on March 28, a 55-year-old woman died due to the infection which was first such death after a gap of 70 days.
The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.
The surge has led to an increase in hospitalisation.
On Saturday, East Singhbhum district saw 26 people recover of the virus.
Of the 101 new cases, 98 are from Jamshedpur urban area, two from Ghastila and one from Dhalbhumgarh.
26 people recovered of the virus on Saturday taking the total recovery to 18245 while total active cases in Jamshedpur are 549.
East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 235453 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 95.67% while the mortality rate is 1.97 %.
So far in Jamshedpur 641952 samples have been collected out of which 626776 have been tested and 607605 have turned out to be negative.
Covid-19 cases continue to rise very fast in East Singhbhum district, especially at the steel city since the past one week.
On the other hand, Coronavirus tally in Jharkhand on Saturday reached 1,26,458 as 873 new cases of Covid-19 were detected while 161 people were discharged from various hospitals across the state. During the day 7 deaths were reported in the state including 3 from Ranchi and one each from East Singhbhum, Bokaro, Chatra and Dhanbad as a result of which the overall death count climbed to 1122. Total active cases in Jharkhand are 4613.
19741 samples were tested in Jharkhand on Saturday of which 18868 were negative and 873 tested positive.
As per the information provided by the health department the number of active cases in the state was 4613 while number of cured and discharged cases stood at 1,20,723.
