Jamshedpur: Roti Bank at MGM Hospital felicitated social worker Poonam Vig and several others with Hunger Hero Award on Monday.
Speaking at a function held on the hospital premises as the chief guest, Poonam, president of Samadhan, said serving the needy was the true worship of god. Everyone should help the under-privileged people in whatever manner possible, she said.
Earlier today, Poonam Vig, Dinesh Vig, Sachidanand Patra and Mala Patel jointly arranged a food distribution event at the hospital. Fruits and sweets were also given to the patients. The birthday of the five year old daughter of Sachidanand Patra was also celebrated on this occasion. Laddoos were distributed among the patients and other visitors to the hospital.
Also present during the programme, Manoj Mishra, president of Jharkhand Human Rights Conference (JHRC), announced to launch Hunger Free Jamshedpur campaign in the city under the banner of the Roti Bank. The campaign would focus on eradicating hunger and starvation from the slum areas and villages of Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas, said Mishra.
Mishra said news of starvation deaths caused by hunger and malnutrition were being published every other day in newspapers. Such incidents are unfortunate and should be stopped immediately, he said.
Those felicitated today included Dinesh Vig, Renu Singh, Reeta Verma, Sachidanand Patra, Ashwini Mathan and Arvind Kishore Sinha.
Among those present during the event included SL Das, Meeta Urani, Meenu Sarkar, Vishwajeet Singh, Brijlal, T Harsha, Aparna Sant Singh, Sujata Tiwary and Santosh Kumar.
