Record 90 corona cases in Jamshedpur on Thursday, 15 from Sonari, doctor and staff of MGM hospital test positive, tally jumps to 1189

Jamshedpur, July 23: Four persons, including three from Jamshedpur and one from Saraikela succumbed to COVID-19 infection on Thursday, July 23. They were undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital.

An 82-year-old Sonari resident fell victim to the virus on July 23 evening. According to reports, the elderly person was rushed to the hospital with breathing difficulties.. He was also suffering from lungs and liver disorders and was admitted to the hospital on July 22. He died today.

Another victim, a 57-year-old Tata Steel employee and resident of Sidgora was on leave for quite some time. He was suffering from fever and breathing problems. He was admitted to the hospital on July 18. He tested positive for the coronavirus on July 19 and succumbed to the disease on Thursday, July 23 evening in the course of treatment.  According to reports both the deceased had no travel history and did not come in contact with any COVID-19 patient.

The third Jamshedpur COVID fatality was that of a 57 year old woman, a resident of Dimna Road in Mango who was admitted to TMH on July 15. She died late evening today, July 23.       

A 40 year old male patient from Nimdih in Saraikela-Kharsawan district was admitted to TMH on July 18 with complaints of malaria and jaundice. His test report on July 20 was corona positive. He died during treatment on July 23 evening.

Record 464 positive cases were reported in the state in a single day on Thursday, July 23. Total of 206 people were discharged from various hospitals across the state on Thursday.  Earlier 485 cases were reported on July 22.

The death toll in Jharkhand stands at 69 while corona positive tally has climbed to 7227.

In Jamshedpur the COVID-19 tally has crossed 1100 mark on Thursday.   

With 90 new cases reported on Thursday, July 23, the total cases in East Singhbhum district stands at 1189. Earlier 84 cases were reported in the district on July 22.

The district administration spokesperson informed that 90 corona positives have been identified in the East Singhbhum district on Thursday. 90 corona positives have been discharged from various COVID-19 hospitals in East Singhbhum district. All the positives have been admitted to COVID-19 wards.

For ten days in a row over 200 cases have been reported every single day in the state.

Other Jharkhand positive cases were reported from Bokaro 9, Chatra 6, Deoghar 1,  Dhanbad 17, East Singhbhum 90, Giridih 6, Godda 2, Gumla 4, Hazaribagh 12, Jamtara 4, Koderma 32, Lohardaga 10, Pakur 4, Palamu 22, Ramgarh 26, Ranchi 198,  Sahebganj 2, Seraikela 10 and West Singhbhum 9 taking the state corona tally to 7166.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is 3845 and fatalities at 69 while 3254 people have recovered and discharged from the hospital. 2245 corona patients tested positive are migrant workers who returned to Jharkhand after May 1.

The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease. East Singhbhum district accounts for 1189 cases out of a total of 7227. The state has imposed lockdown till July 31. Religious places, malls, saloon, spas, schools, colleges will remain closed till July 31.

The cabinet on Wednesday also made not wearing a mask in public places a criminal offence under the Disaster Management Act and decided to slap a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh on the violators. Not wearing a mask could also lead to imprisonment of up to two years, the cabinet decided. 

The decision, officials said, was taken in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic after Jharkhand saw an unprecedented rise in cases of infection in July. The count of Covid-19 cases has tripled in the state since June, and officials have held the lackadaisical approach of citizens responsible for the spike in cases.
