Jamshedpur, Aug 31: Trends in the city are suggesting that every second person who is being tested is positive for COVID-19. In last 11 days a sample of 3975 samples were tested and out of which 2118 people found to be positive of coronavirus. In every 100 sample tests 53.28 per cent people are being found positive.

Moreover, from 14 March till now a total of 70250 tests have been conducted and 6445 patients were identified. The growth rate of the district from past seven days is 201.07 per cent.

According to information from the district health department, from 14 March to 30, 2422 tests were conducted and no one was found to be positive. The worrying trend began to show from May second week.

The Kolhan Division which was under green zone came under coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12. Several other persons tested positive had travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. They arrived in the city and were staying in quarantine centres in different parts.
The district health department functionaries who are combating the Covid-19 are puzzled over the new trend of Coronavirus in the district. Health officials said testing would be ramped up, particularly among asymptomatic people.
From a rough estimate over 70 per cent of the city population might be asymptomatic COVID patients,” said East Singhbhum district civil surgeon, Rajendra Nath Jha.
Jha pointed out that those who are asymptomatic actually pose the most danger for the society. “As the asymptomatic patients do not have any symptom of COVID, they move in the public places, including marketplaces, banks and on the streets and thus spread the virus unknowingly,” said the civil surgeon.
Meanwhile, the East Singhbhum district health department conducted out massive rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 at the steel city and in its rural areas of the district on Monday. The test drive was conducted at Kadma, Sonari, Birsanagar, Sidgora and Mango. People in large numbers participated in the drive. The health department has set up a target to conduct over 7,000 tests in a day.
For carrying out the test, the district administration and its health wing has made all preparation so that the testing procedure may start effectively from 8 am to continue till 4 pm.
