Jamshedpur’s Railway Heroes Honoured with Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Award at Yashobhoomi

New Delhi/Jamshedpur: The pride of Jamshedpur resounded at the national level on Friday as a brave railway officer from the Steel City was honoured at a prestigious ceremony held at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw felicitated three employees of South Eastern Railway (SER) with the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Award 2025.

Among the awardees, the name of Sanjay Kumar Tiwari, former RPF Inspector of Tatanagar, stood out prominently for his exemplary courage, professionalism, and humanitarian service.

Tatanagar’s ‘Singham’: A Story of Courage and Commitment

Sanjay Kumar Tiwari received the prestigious award for his multi-dimensional achievements during his tenure at Tatanagar railway station. During routine checks, he successfully arrested hardened criminals under the Arms Act and recovered illegal weapons, dealing a major blow to criminal networks operating in the railway premises.

Key Achievements That Earned National Recognition

Some of the notable achievements of Sanjay Kumar Tiwari include:

  • Arrest of 55 habitual thieves involved in luggage theft during 2023–24
  • Rescue of 11 minor children from human trafficking under the ‘Nanhe Farishte’ campaign, giving them a new lease on life
  • Safe recovery and return of lost belongings worth nearly ₹33 lakh to passengers
  • Ensuring foolproof security arrangements during the President of India’s programme at Badampahar

Two Other South Eastern Railway Heroes Honoured

Along with Sanjay Tiwari, two other outstanding employees from South Eastern Railway were also honoured for their exceptional service:

  • Shramana Das (Technician-3): Played a crucial role in mastering repairs of the Automatic Pressure Modifier (APM) system, significantly contributing to railway self-reliance. As many as 2,700 APM units repaired by her are functioning flawlessly, ensuring safe train operations.
  • Prasannajeet Das (Bridge Assistant): During a routine bridge inspection, his sharp observation helped detect a major vertical cross-bracing crack, preventing a potentially catastrophic train accident.

Pride of Jamshedpur, Honour for the Nation

Out of railway zones across the country, only 100 railway employees nationwide were selected for the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Award 2025. The inclusion of a courageous officer from Tatanagar has significantly enhanced Jamshedpur’s pride at the national level.

The award ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, and several senior railway officials.

The honour reflects the dedication, bravery, and silent service of railway personnel who work tirelessly to ensure passenger safety and national infrastructure security.
