Jamshedpur: MLA of Jamshedpur East Purnima Sahu held a review meeting with officials of Tata Steel UISL (formerly Jusco) to address the long-standing electricity and drinking water problems affecting Antyodaya Ashrams in the Sitaramdera and Burmamines areas.

The tripartite meeting was convened at the MLA’s Agrico residence office and was attended by Tata Steel UISL General Manager R.K. Singh, heads of the Water Management and Electricity departments, and representatives of 18 Antyodaya Ashrams.

Detailed discussions were held on irregular water supply, weak electricity infrastructure, and the urgent need for sustainable solutions in the residential welfare institutions. During the meeting, MLA Purnima Sahu issued clear directions to Tata Steel UISL officials to resolve all power and water-related issues in the 18 Antyodaya Ashrams within a fixed timeframe of three months.

She stressed that the progress of the work must be monitored regularly and treated as a priority. Highlighting the social importance of Antyodaya Ashrams, Sahu said these institutions cater to the most vulnerable and deprived sections of society, and the absence of basic amenities such as water and electricity is unacceptable.

She underlined that it is the collective responsibility of the government and service-providing agencies to ensure dignified living conditions for residents of such welfare homes. In response, Tata Steel UISL officials assured that a phased action plan would be implemented to strengthen water supply and electricity infrastructure in all the concerned ashrams, ensuring permanent and reliable solutions.

Following the meeting, residents and caretakers of the ashrams expressed relief and satisfaction, thanking MLA Purnima Sahu and Tata Steel UISL for taking prompt and decisive steps.
