District Congress organizes dharna on ownership and domicile issues in Sakchi
Jamshedpur: District Congress committee members staged a sit-in at Sakchi roundabout on the ownership right of bastis and domicile issues.
Speaking on the occasion, state Congress president Dr Ajoy Kumar said the state government should give the ownership right of various bastis in the city to their owners as done in New Delhi and Mumbai.
Jharkhand government should give complete ownership of land to the residents of all the bastis in the city. Lease and sub lease cannot replace ownership right. The government should take a prompt decision in this regard, said Kumar.
Kumar said the state government cannot fool the people of the city in the name of ownership right. He said providing lease for 30 years cannot satisfy the demand of the people.
Led by Yogendra Sharma, the protestors handed a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Raghubar Das to the ADC, East Singhbhum. Copies of the memorandum were also sent to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu.
Sharma said anything short of ownership was not acceptable to the people of the various bastis. He said the foundation day of Jharkhand, 15th November 2000, should be the cut-off date for formulating the domicile policy in the state.
Also present on the occasion, district Congress president Vijay Khan said the fake promises made by the CM would prove fatal to his government.
Among others present during the sit-in included Ajay Singh, Ramashraya Prasad, Akhilesh Singh Yadav, Devika Singh, Punita Choudhary, Pavinder Singh, Paritosh Singh, Rakesh Sahu, Shikha Choudhary, Ambuj Pandey, Debu Chatterjee and Rana Singh.
