NIT Jamshedpur Observes National Youth Day with ‘Run for Swadeshi’

Jamshedpur: The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur on Monday observed National Youth Day by organising a spirited ‘Run for Swadeshi’ at the historic Downs Ground, marking the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

The event, held as part of the institute’s youth day celebrations, aimed to promote patriotism, self-reliance, and youth awareness in line with Swami Vivekananda’s ideals of discipline, self-belief, and national service.

A 5-kilometre run formed the highlight of the programme, witnessing participation from around 400 students, along with faculty members, staff, the Dean of Students’ Welfare, representatives of the Students’ Activities Society (SAS), and the institute’s NSS unit. The large turnout reflected strong enthusiasm among the student community.

From early morning, the Downs Ground echoed with energy as participants gathered for the run, symbolising unity, fitness, and commitment to nation-building. Organisers said the run was designed not just as a sporting activity but as a collective expression of responsibility and teamwork, values consistently championed by Swami Vivekananda.

During brief addresses, faculty members underscored the continued relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, particularly his emphasis on physical strength, mental alertness, and moral character among youth. They noted that such initiatives help inculcate healthy lifestyles while fostering a deeper sense of social and national responsibility among students.

The ‘Run for Swadeshi’ concluded with a renewed call for young citizens to contribute positively to society by embracing self-reliance and service to the nation.
