Mumbai (IANS): The National Commission for Women (NCW) issued summons to actors Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, along with others, in connection with the controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke.”
The Commission took suo motu cognizance of media reports alleging obscenity and vulgarity in the song, exercising its powers under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990.
According to the NCW, the content appears prima facie sexually suggestive, objectionable, and potentially in violation of provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The Commission also summoned lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Group, and director Kiran Kumar. It directed all of them to appear before the Commission on March 24, 2026, at 12:30 PM with relevant documents.
The NCW warned that failure to appear may invite appropriate legal action.
Earlier, on March 17, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice over the alleged use of objectionable and double-meaning lyrics in the song from the film KD – The Devil.
On Wednesday, Nora Fatehi addressed the issue on social media and presented her clarification. She stated that she distanced herself from the project after learning about the possible consequences of the song, particularly due to its lyrics.
She added that she initially did not understand the meaning of the song, and once she realised it, she decided to step back from any further involvement, including its promotion.
