National Lok Adalat grants quick justice: Kin of 2 road accident victims granted Rs 1.8 crore

Jamshedpur: The National Lok Adalat on Saturday granted motor vehicle claims worth Rs 1.8 crore to relatives of two victims who died in road accidents. Principal District and Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar Pandey gave away cheques totaling Rs 1.8 crore to claimants in the motor vehicle claim cases.

In ADJ 6 Court, a cheque for Rs 1.1 crore was presented to Dolly Bose and Subroto Ghosh, parents of deceased Nilanjana Bose, a resident of Sonari. In the other case, a check of Rs 70 lakh was given to Poopen Khalko, the wife of deceased Bimal Khalko, a resident of Chakradharpur. Both claims were paid through Tata AIG Insurance Company. Insurance company officials were also present on the occasion.

Judge Pandey said that this step not only demonstrates the social responsibility of the judiciary but also represents an important initiative towards connecting victims with the mainstream and raising their standard of living.

National Lok Adalat was organized on Saturday in Jamshedpur Civil Court and Ghatshila Court premises to make justice accessible to the people and ensure speedy disposal of pending cases. The court was held under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority and was inaugurated in Jamshedpur by Principal District and Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar Pandey.

Highlighting the importance of the Lok Adalat, he said that the court is a boon for the poor and marginalized, providing speedy justice without the expense and lengthy process. He appealed to all parties to take maximum advantage of this platform for mediation and conciliation. The National Lok Adalat is a successful example of the integration of justice and social upliftment.

To ensure the successful conduction of the National Lok Adalat, a total of 16 benches were constituted, including 12 at the Jamshedpur Court Complex and four at the Ghatshila Court. These benches conducted expeditious hearings and settlements of cases, ensuring speedy justice for litigants. Cases across various legal categories, like motor accident claims, dishonoured cheques, matrimonial disputes, and bank loan matters, were resolved promptly through mutual reconciliation and settlement.

Judicial officers, court staff, and PLVs played an active role in conducting this entire event in Jamshedpur and Ghatshila on Saturday. Principal Judge of Family Court Ajit Kumar Singh, Judge ADJ 1 Kankan Pattadar, Judge POCSO Court Bimlesh Sahay, District Bar Association President RN Das, Secretary Kumar Rajesh Ranjan, DLSA Secretary Dharmendra Kumar, with other judicial officers were also present at the National Lok Adalat.

Earlier in the day, the National Lok Adalat was inaugurated online from Dumka with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp jointly by the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, and Member Secretary of JHALSA, Principal District Judge Kumari Ranjana Asthana and other dignitaries.

A total of 2,75,936 cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat, including 2,64,775 pre-litigation cases and 11,159 pending cases. The total revenue generated from case disposal was Rs 10.98 lakh.
