Record turnout marks Marwari Sammelan polls in East Singhbhum
Jamshedpur, Dec 14: Mukesh Mittal was declared the winner in the election for the post of President of the East Singhbhum District Marwari Sammelan, which witnessed a record-breaking voter turnout on Sunday, reflecting unprecedented enthusiasm among members of the community.
Polling was held from 9 am to 5 pm at Jalaram Jain Bhavan in Bistupur and was conducted smoothly under strict CCTV surveillance to ensure transparency and fairness. Out of 1,412 registered voters, 1,148 votes were cast, marking the highest participation in the organisation’s electoral history. Of these, three votes were cancelled during scrutiny.
The counting of votes began at 6 pm, following which Mukesh Mittal was declared the winner after securing 413 votes. His closest rival, Suresh Sharma alias Lippu, received 367 votes, while Vivek Choudhary polled 365 votes. After the declaration of results, the winning candidate was formally awarded the certificate of election.
All three candidates had set up tents outside the polling venue, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the day. Mukesh Mittal, Suresh Sharma alias Lippu, and Vivek Choudhary remained present at the venue for most of the day, interacting with voters and seeking their support.
The election process was overseen by Chief Election Officer Suresh Agrawal (Debuka), assisted by Assistant Election Officers Shriram Saroj (Advocate) and Suresh Kumar Agrawal, along with a 15-member team responsible for ensuring a free, fair and transparent election.
The East Singhbhum District Marwari Sammelan has a long and respected legacy of leadership. In the earlier unified Singhbhum region, the organisation was led by eminent personalities including the late Sitaram Rungta, late Chimanlal Bhalotia, Satyanarayan Mittal, Chandulal Bhalotia, Lalit Jawanpuriya, Murlidhar Kedia, Ashok Modi, Umesh Shah, Umesh Kountia and Nirmal Kabra. The re-election of Mukesh Mittal marks his renewed mandate from the community.
At present, the Sammelan has 17 active branches across the district, including Kadma, Sonari, Bistupur, Sakchi, Jugsalai, Bhalubasa, Golmuri, Telco, Mango, Jadugora, Ghatshila, Dhalbhumgarh, Chakulia, Baridih, Sundernagar, Parsudih and Haldipokhar. With record participation setting a new benchmark, the election has reinforced the organisation’s strong democratic tradition and unity within the community.
