Jamshedpur, Oct 22: Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha ( JLKM ) legislator from Dumri Jairam Mahato finds himself in potential legal trouble for violating election rules during the Ghatsila by-election campaign.
During a rally in the Ghatshila assembly constituency, Mahato was seen standing on top of a Scorpio vehicle while interacting with voters, an act considered a breach of safety regulations.
The deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Karn Satyarthi, who is also the district election officer shared the development on social media, stating that campaigning from the top of a four-wheeler is a violation of prescribed safety norms.
The election officer has issued a directive to the concerned political party or candidate to provide a clear explanation within 24 hours.
Failure to respond satisfactorily may invite legal action under the law.
According to the Election Commission guidelines, standing or sitting atop vehicles during campaigning is prohibited, as it poses risks to public safety and may disrupt law and order.
Observers are now awaiting Mahato’s response and the subsequent action from the administration.
