Jamshedpur: Unidentified persons damaged an ATM of Axis Bank located at Kalimati Road in Sakchi on Deepawali night in an abortive bid to steal cash.
Police officials said the accused persons opened the lid of the ATM with a tool, but failed to break the locker. The thieves could not succeed in their attempt and the money in the ATM is safe, officials said.
Cops said they would be going through CCTV footage to make headway into the case. They said a search was on to nab the culprits.
The incident put a question mark on safety of ATMs which is frequented by commuters and is guarded by security personnel.
