Midnight arrest of Saryu Roy supporter sparks protest; released after MLA’s Intervention

Jamshedpur, Nov 12: BJP worker and supporter of NDA candidate Saryu Roy, Nimai Agarwal, also known as Gichchu was arrested by Kadma police on Monday night at around 11:45 pm. Gichchu’s detention stirred immediate backlash, with hundreds of Saryu Roy’s supporters rallying at the Kadma police station, demanding his release. Upon learning of the arrest, MLA Saryu Roy intervened by contacting the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), which led to Gichchu’s release shortly afterward.

According to reports, police arrived at Gichchu’s residence around midnight, instructing him to accompany them to the station on orders from the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). When Gichchu questioned the late-hour summons, the police allegedly insisted on compliance, warning of force if he resisted. Gichchu’s wife accompanied him to the station, and shortly after, a large gathering of Saryu supporters joined, seeking clarity on his arrest. Kadma police initially denied Gichchu’s presence, later admitting he had been taken to the Sonari police station under mounting public pressure.

At around 3 am, MLA Saryu Roy arrived at Kadma police station and confronted the DSP, demanding Gichchu’s whereabouts. Roy insisted Gichchu be brought back to Kadma for his release, adding that the police actions reflected a larger issue of intimidation under Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta’s alleged “work culture.” Eventually, following Roy’s conversation with the SSP, the DSP agreed to release Gichchu on a PR bond. Supporters, however, remained adamant, pressing for his release from Kadma police station itself.

The standoff concluded around 5 am on Tuesday, with Gichchu’s release from Kadma station. Supporters then gathered at the Rankini temple, where they celebrated his release and birthday, offering prayers to Maa Kali. The incident marked a significant statement from MLA Roy, who vowed to counter what he described as Gupta’s “intimidation tactics.”

Allegation of misbehavior by police during arrest

Jamshedpur, Nov 12: Nimai Agarwal (Gichchu) and his wife have accused the police of misconduct during the arrest process, claiming that officers arrived at their home without a valid reason and attempted to break down the door.

In a statement, Gichchu expressed his shock, stating, “The police came without any case, tried to force their way into our home, and behaved inappropriately with my wife and daughter.” His wife also spoke out, alleging that the police officers were heavily intoxicated and made inappropriate remarks while looking at their daughter. She further criticized the lack of a female officer present during the arrest, calling the behavior unacceptable.

The couple also pointed out that instead of taking Gichchu to the Kadma police station, where he was initially supposed to be detained, he was taken to Sonari police station. Gichchu’s wife added, “Banna Gupta belongs to our caste, but his behavior towards us is disgraceful.”

Saryu Roy appeals to vote fearlessly amid alleged intimidation

Jamshedpur, Nov 12: Reacting to the recent arrest of his supporter Nimai Agarwal (Gichchu), NDA candidate Saryu Roy has condemned the actions of the police, calling it an attempt to intimidate his supporters and create fear in the Jamshedpur West Assembly constituency ahead of the elections.

Roy described the incident as “the first attack on Banna Gupta’s intimidating work culture” and assured the public that his team would stand firm against any such threats. He urged the voters to exercise their right to vote freely and without fear on November 13. “If anyone tries to threaten you, inform us immediately. We will ensure protection,” Roy stated, calling on the people of Jamshedpur to vote fearlessly.

Roy emphasized that Gichchu, who had once been close to Banna Gupta, is now supporting him in this election, which he believes led to the politically motivated arrest. “The police arrested Gichchu with the intention of intimidating him and his family, using this incident to instill fear in the entire constituency,” Roy added. He reiterated his commitment to defending the rights of voters and ensuring a peaceful election process.

Saryu urges EC for central forces amid alleged police bias

Jamshedpur, Nov 12: Saryu Roy, the NDA candidate for Jamshedpur West, has sent a formal communication to the Election Commission, accusing the local police of acting in favor of Congress candidate and state minister Banna Gupta. Roy alleged that his supporter, Nimai Agarwal, was arrested from his home on November 12, 2024, without any charges being filed.

Roy stated that the police had not informed Agarwal’s wife about his whereabouts, prompting him and his supporters to sit in a peaceful dharna at the Kadma police station. Despite their presence, Roy claimed the police were refusing to provide any information about Agarwal.

In his letter to the Election Commission, Roy highlighted the police’s negligence and alleged bias during the election campaign. “The police and administration are ignoring our complaints, and fair elections in Jamshedpur West are now under threat,” Roy stated. He has requested the immediate deployment of Central Police Forces to ensure the safety and integrity of the upcoming elections in the region.
