MGM Hospital Jamshedpur to Open Tender for Jan Aushadhi Kendra on April 15

Jamshedpur: MGM Hospital is moving forward with plans to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra (People’s Medicine Centre) on its premises. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Balram Jha announced that the administration will open the tenders for the centre on April 15.

The deadline to submit tender applications ended on April 12. This follows a previous attempt to establish the centre on December 30, which the administration cancelled for undisclosed reasons. Under the direction of the current Superintendent, the hospital has reissued the tender to ensure patients gain access to affordable healthcare.

Slashing Medicine Costs by 80%

The opening of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra is expected to provide significant financial relief to patients. Dr. Jha noted that the centre will offer medicines at rates 60% to 80% cheaper than open-market pharmacies.

A specialized committee, led by the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) and including the Hospital Superintendent and a Drug Inspector, has been formed to oversee the project.

Over 580 Essential Medicines Available

The Jan Aushadhi Kendra typically stocks approximately 585 types of medicines, covering a wide range of ailments.

• High Demand: Medicines for chronic conditions like blood pressure and diabetes see the highest sales volumes.
• Affordability: Because patients with sugar and BP issues require daily medication, the drastically lower prices at the centre significantly reduce their monthly healthcare expenditure.
• Quality & Cost: Patients increasingly prefer these centres because the price gap between “branded” outside medicines and Jan Aushadhi generic versions is substantial, despite offering similar therapeutic benefits.

The initiative aims to make MGM Hospital a more accessible healthcare hub for the residents of Jamshedpur and surrounding districts.
