
Seraikela, Nov 28 (IANS) A Maoist ultra was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Seraikela- Kharswan district on Thursday, a police official said.
The encounter took place around 10 am in Bandi village under Kuchai police station limits, Superintendent of Police, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Karthik S said.
Members of the CPI (Maoist) fired on the advancing security personnel and they retaliated, killing one of the ultras.The body of the red rebel and an improvised explosive device were found at the spot during a search operation after the half-an-hour encounter.
According to the SP, �We had been receiving tip-off about the Maoists led by Anil and Maharaj Pramanik planning to disrupt elections in the district. A search operation was being run in Raisindri hill area. During the operation, Maoists fired on police. After half an hour of retaliatory firing, the Maoists fled the scene. During search operation, we recovered the body of a Maoist, a 25 kg heavy pipe bomb, Maoist uniforms and other daily use and objectionable items. The search is still on.�
The search operation is being carried jointly by district police, CRPF 196 Battalion and Cobra 207 Battalion, sources said.
