Jamshedpur, October 24: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Madhu Koda has appealed a Delhi High Court decision in the Supreme Court, challenging the ruling that barred him from contesting elections. The High Court had earlier dismissed his petition, prompting Koda to take his case to the Supreme Court.
A three-judge bench, including Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice R Mahadev, will hear Koda’s appeal. The Delhi High Court had previously ruled that Koda sought to stay a lower court’s verdict solely to participate in elections, which the court deemed inappropriate. The court also noted that the lower court’s findings pointed to Koda’s prima facie guilt, giving no grounds to halt the sentence.
Koda was convicted in the coal scam by a lower court, along with former Coal Secretary A.K. Basu and other officials. All were sentenced to three years in prison and fined.
