Loyola School crowned champions of inter-school classical dance competition

Sreeleathers give platform to students to display talent

Jamshedpur: Various forms of Indian classical dance took centrestage on Friday at Fasy Auditorium, Loyola School with the hosting of inter-school classical dance competition organised in association with Sreeleathers. The students showcased their prowess in classical dance.

On the occasion, Shekhar Dey, director, Sreeleathers, RajaniShekhar, Principal , DBMS English School, Pragya Singh, Principal, DAV Public School, Bistupur, Father Alex Darwin, Vice Principal, St Mary�s English School jointly inaugurated the event.

�Indian classical dance forms are increasingly gaining popularity through the dedicated effort. Prominent amongst this is Kathak, which has received international acclaim. Our objective is to provide a platform to the children to showcase their talent,� said Shekhar Dey.

The education fraternity emphasised the need for the young generation to understand and appreciate Indian classical dance forms. They thanked The Times of India &Sreeleathers for taking a proactive stance in encouraging school children to know the basics of Indian dance forms, many of them arising out of Indian culture.

They added that the participants should treat victory and defeat the same way and strive to further hone their talent.

The event was also graced by Father Pius Fernandes, Principal Loyola School, Father Michael Fernandes, Vice Principal, Loyola School, and Vineeta F Ekka, Vice Principal of junior section of Loyola School.

About 11 schools in the city participated in the event. This was a unique way of encouraging school children to get an insight into classical dances of India. The event was judged by famous classical dance artist from Kolkata Dr Debasmita Mukherjee.

The schools participating in the competition included DBM English School, DAV, Bistupur, Hill Top School, Jamshedpur Public School, KPS, Kadma, Little Flower School, Loyola School, Motilal Nehru Public School, Ramkrishna Mission, St Mary�s and Tagore Academy.

In a two-hour long performance, Loyola School was declared the champions followed by DAV Public School as second and Little Flower School as third.

The presentation proved that a collaborative work need not be pieced together but a clear illustration of each genre, a comprehensible consolidation of distinctive individuality. The participants brought out the inherent beauty of their idiom without an attempt to imitate or interfere.
