Jamshedpur Kidnapping: Police Raid 20 Locations Across Bihar, Jharkhand; Traders’ Anger Mounts

Jamshedpur: One week has passed since the brazen kidnapping of 24-year-old entrepreneur Kairav Gandhi, and despite 192 hours of investigation, Jamshedpur police remain without a definitive lead on his location. The abduction, carried out by criminals posing in police uniforms within the high-security Circuit House Area of Bistupur, has triggered a massive outcry over the collapse of the intelligence network in Jharkhand.

As Kairav’s mother remains under constant medical supervision due to her deteriorating health, the city has united in prayer for the young businessman’s safe return.

“We are very close to the digital footprints. Our teams in Nalanda and Koderma are working on vital clues. Kairav’s safe return is our absolute priority,” said Tadasha Mishra, DGP, Jharkhand.

The Nalanda Connection: Cyber-Kidnapping Syndicate

The investigation has taken a significant turn toward the Nalanda district of Bihar. Special Investigation Teams (SIT) and CID units have traced the getaway vehicle—a Scorpio bearing the license plate JH 12A 4499.

Records reveal this number actually belongs to a 2003-model Bolero registered to a resident of Nai Pokhar, Rajgir. The “dead vehicle” strategy—using numbers from cars with expired fitness and tax records—was a deliberate move to evade digital tracking. Nai Pokhar is notorious as a hideout for interstate gangs, and police have now intensified raids in this area.

Suspected Gangs and Prison Links

Authorities are currently interrogating inmates at Seraikela Jail, suspecting the kidnapping plot was hatched behind bars. A massive manhunt is underway for notorious kidnapping kingpin Chandan Sonar and his associate, Arvind, with search operations spanning Hazaribagh, Koderma, and the West Bengal border. Information gathered from suspects detained in Sonari and Hajipur suggests a “local informer” provided the gang with detailed movement patterns of the Gandhi family.

Political Leaders Demand NIA or CBI Probe

The abduction has sparked a political firestorm. Union Minister Sanjay Seth visited the family, labelling the incident a total “administrative failure.” Meanwhile, Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy has formally petitioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah for an NIA or CBI investigation. Roy argued that because the ransom calls are originating from international numbers (including Indonesia with the +62 code), the case exceeds the technical capabilities of the state police.

Former Minister Dulal Bhuiyan has also warned the DGP of a massive agitation across the Kolhan region if Kairav is not rescued immediately.

Industrialists Issue 24-Hour Ultimatum

The business communities of Jamshedpur and Adityapur are gripped by fear. The Small Scale Industries Association held an emergency meeting, stating that such crimes in “safe” zones will kill new investment in the state. Industrial bodies have issued an ultimatum: if a concrete breakthrough is not achieved within 24 hours, they will shut down their units and take to the streets in protest.

Identified Investigation Gaps

Seven days into the crisis, serious questions are being raised regarding the efficiency of the initial police response. Experts and internal sources have pointed out that a significant delay in sealing the exit points of the city and the interstate borders of Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal allowed the kidnappers to escape the immediate dragnet. This was further complicated by a failing CCTV network, as non-functional cameras and low-resolution footage in high-profile areas from Bistupur to Chandil made tracking the vehicle nearly impossible.

Furthermore, a clear intelligence failure has been noted, as the Local Intelligence Unit was unable to detect the sophisticated reconnaissance conducted by an outside gang in a supposedly high-security zone. Finally, the criminals have successfully bypassed traditional surveillance systems by utilizing advanced technological tools, including VOIP and international calling codes, to remain untraceable.
