JVM demands anti-defection measures against MLAs

Ranchi: Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) has demanded that the Election Commission should take action against candidates having violated the anti-defection laws by quitting their parties and joining other parties for ticket.

A delegation of the party leaders led by former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and party president Babulal Marandi today met the chief election officer of Jharkhand PK Jajoria and demanded for anti-defection measures against several legislators of the state.

There are several MLAs who should be dismissed from the Assembly for quitting their original parties. Bandhu Tirkey, Chamra Linda, Hemlal Murmu and Chandrashekhar Dubey should resign from membership of Jharkhand Assembly, without which they cannot be allowed to contest the Parliamentary elections, said Marandi.

Marandi said the candidates should not be allowed to violate the Model Code of Conduct by leaving one party and joining another. Unless and until such legislators quit as Jharkhand Assembly members, they should not be allowed to contest the elections, he said.
