JNAC under fire as illegal construction resumes in Jamshedpur

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Feb 9 : Jamshedpur’s civic body, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), has landed in the eye of a storm over unchecked illegal constructions mushrooming across the steel city, allegedly right under the nose of its officials.
A glaring example has surfaced from Mithila Colony in Baridih, where a building has been under illegal construction for several years in blatant violation of approved building norms.
According to local sources, the building has been sealed multiple times by JNAC, yet construction work mysteriously resumes after short intervals.
Most recently, work has once again restarted at the site, raising serious questions about enforcement and accountability.
Congress district vice-president Bablu Jha has taken the issue public by conducting a Facebook Live, drawing the attention of JNAC officials, the district administration, and even the Chief Minister. He questioned whose patronage has enabled the resumption of construction despite repeated sealing orders.
The building is alleged to have been constructed in clear violation of the sanctioned plan.
It reportedly lacks any parking provision, while a government electricity pole has been illegally brought within the building premises, further compounding the violations.
Official records show that JNAC sealed the building on June 16, 2022, April 28, 2023, May 6, 2023, and again on January 24, 2024.
However, each time, the seal was allegedly broken and construction activity resumed after a brief lull.
With fresh work now underway yet again, questions are being raised over the effectiveness of JNAC’s enforcement mechanism and the possible involvement of influential interests shielding the illegal construction.
