Jharkhand Govt. to announce new IT police to draw investments

Ranchi, Oct. 27: A high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Mr. Rajiv Gauba, in Ranchi on Tuesday to further the Government of Jharkhand�s goal of bringing IT investment into the State.

The effort to engaging in dialogue with industry partners is crucial as Jharkhand seeks to create a model IT policy. With a view to implement both Digital India and Make in India programmes, the government has started the groundwork for creating a clear cut detailed road map in the IT space over the next four years, the Chief Secretary told the participants at the meeting.

Gauba said, �This meeting was a reflection of the seriousness of the Government of Jharkhand to ensure that the state can truly capitalise on the potential it has in the realm of IT and IT related manufacturing. The government-industry-academy dialogue allowed us to mutually exchange ideas charting out a trajectory that leads to a win-win for both the people of the state and the IT Industry.�

A press release issued at the end of the meeting said that the State Government will work with different Global organisations, academia and influences like NASSCOM, Manufacturing Association of India (MAIT) and Semi-Conductor Manufacturing Associations to achieve this goal.

Jharkhand Government desires to leverage its assets of engineering and management institutions of the State so that initiative like Start-ups, entrepreneur development and incubation of diverse applications could be started. It is in this regard that the Government of Jharkhand is in the process of creating an IT Advisory Board with eminent members being drawn from academia and industry, the release added.

In the meeting held it was unanimously agreed that Jharkhand State has tremendous potential in becoming a manufacturing hub of ESDM components, especially in the eastern corridor.

As part of this discussion, it was also agreed that skilling of youth of Jharkhand in the evolving technologies is the pre-requisite to make Jharkhand a frontrunner in the field of information technology (IT).

Government of Jharkhand shall draw up plans for large scale skill development programs in State around IT/ ITeS space. The next meeting is scheduled on November 23, 2015 to further develop the new IT policy of the State.

The meeting was attended by Dr. S. P. Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council, Mr. Anwar Shirpurwala, Executive Director, Manufacturing Association of India, Ms Uma Reddy, Council of Industrial Engineering, Karnataka, Professor Vinay Nangia, IIT Roorkee, and Professor M Jaiswal from MDI, Gurgaon.

In addition, representatives from global organisations like Oracle, Microsoft, TCS and IBM attended the meeting.
