Jharkhand: Farmer Trampled to Death by Wild Elephant in Seraikela-Kharsawan

Seraikela: A 50-year-old farmer was killed in a brutal attack by a wild elephant late on Saturday night in Nutundih village, located within the Letemda Panchayat of Kukru block, Chandil subdivision.

The deceased has been identified as Buka Mahto, also known as Gaurang Mahto. The incident has left the village in a state of mourning and intense panic.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 3:00 am. Mahto was alone in his field, guarding his standing paddy crops from wild animals. During this time, a wild elephant emerged from the nearby forest and launched a sudden and violent attack.

The assault was so severe that the farmer died on the spot. Because the victim was alone at the time of the incident, no immediate help could reach him.

The news of the death spread quickly throughout the region this morning. Villagers expressed deep concern over the recurring movement of wild elephants in the area, which has created an atmosphere of fear among local farmers.

The local authorities and the forest department have been informed of the tragedy to initiate the necessary legal proceedings and discuss compensation for the bereaved family.
