Jamshedpur, Jan 9: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday unveiled an ambitious and transformative vision for the state’s healthcare and medical education sector, announcing that 30 new medical colleges will be established across Jharkhand within the next five years.

The declaration was made during the inauguration of the Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital (NSMCH) at Adityapur in the Seraikela–Kharsawan district, a landmark moment for the Kolhan region.

Calling the occasion “a historic day for Kolhan,” the Chief Minister said the launch of a full-fledged medical college in Adityapur was the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream.

“We always wanted a medical college in Seraikela. Today that dream has come true. From the soil of this district, future doctors will now emerge,” he said, adding that the institution would shape generations of healthcare professionals and strengthen the region’s medical ecosystem.

Addressing the first batch of students, CM Soren urged them to carry forward the hopes of society with integrity and dedication.

“When you step out with your medical degrees, society will look up to you with immense expectations. I want you to live up to those hopes and serve with compassion,” he said.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to healthcare, he noted that Jharkhand already has over 200 nursing colleges and that the state is continuously working to expand medical infrastructure at every level.

Reaffirming his hands-on approach, the Chief Minister said that even while travelling to the programme, he had spoken with the Health Secretary about local healthcare challenges and sought their early resolution.

“I am serious about strengthening health services. Challenges are part of the journey—and it is only when challenges exist that the joy of working truly comes alive,” he remarked.

The inauguration of NSMCH marks a major step in that direction.

Built on land allotted by JIADA in 2022, the college will begin operations with 100 MBBS seats in its first phase, offering new opportunities for aspiring doctors from Jharkhand and neighbouring regions.

With this, it becomes the third medical college in this region.

Health Secretary Ajay Singh described the occasion as a milestone for Jharkhand, revealing that 10 medical colleges are currently functional in the state, a number expected to double to 20 within the next four years.

He further informed that three new government medical colleges are under construction in Chaibasa, Koderma, and Bokaro, which will further widen access to quality medical education and healthcare services.

With the launch of Netaji Subhash Medical College and the Chief Minister’s bold roadmap of 30 new institutions, Jharkhand is now firmly on course to emerge as a major medical education and healthcare hub in eastern India, promising better access to doctors, improved infrastructure, and a healthier future for its people.

Health Minister Irfan Ansari was also present at the inauguration.

The Chancellor of Netaji Subhash Medical College, MN Singh welcomed the dignitaries with bouquets, after which a prayer was offered.

He informed that the college will begin with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats.

The Chancellor also congratulated the Chief Minister and former Health Minister Banna Gupta for their role in making the project a reality.

The event was also attended by Somesh Soren, Dashrath Gagrai, and Mangal Kalindi, among other dignitaries.
