Jamshedpur: The Janata Dal (United) has formally staked its claim to the Mayor’s post in the upcoming Mango Municipal Corporation elections and urged the BJP to leave the seat for JDU as an NDA constituent.
The party said it has more than one strong potential candidate to contest the election as the NDA nominee. On Sunday, senior leaders of JDU Jamshedpur met Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy at his residential office and placed their demand before him.
Those present included East Singhbhum district president Subodh Shrivastava, Jamshedpur (Metropolitan) president Ajay Kumar, Kulvinder Singh and district senior leader Neeraj Singh.
During the meeting, JDU leaders emphasised that the Mango Mayor’s seat should be allotted to the party and that the NDA should field a single, united candidate. They stressed that the NDA nominee must have strong organisational backing, a solid social base, public support and committed workers to ensure the alliance’s victory.
MLA Saryu Roy informed the delegation that BJP state president Aditya Sahu had already been in touch regarding the issue and that discussions with the BJP leadership were ongoing. He assured JDU leaders that he would convey the party’s sentiments to the BJP leadership and strongly reiterate their demand in future talks.
JDU leaders expressed confidence that the NDA would take a fair and respectful decision, keeping in view the party’s organisational strength, social connects and public support in Mango.
The leaders also criticised former minister Banna Gupta, alleging that he is attempting to contest the Mayor’s election by fielding his wife as a proxy candidate. They said the public is well aware of allegations of corruption against him and asserted that a united NDA effort with a strong candidate is necessary to defeat such politics in Mango.
