Jamshedpur Women’s University Hosts ‘Joy of Giving’ Event Dedicated to Transgender Community

Jamshedpur: The MBA Department of Jamshedpur Women’s University organised the fifth edition of its ‘Joy of Giving’ initiative on February 14, dedicating this year’s programme to the transgender community. Held at the university’s Sidhgora campus, the event brought together students, faculty members, and members of the transgender community for a day marked by cultural performances, dialogue, and gestures of solidarity.

Positioned as an effort to foster empathy and raise awareness about the rights and dignity of marginalised groups, the initiative reflected the university’s continuing outreach beyond academics, while providing a platform for a community often left on the fringes of mainstream society. The event was coordinated by students mentored by Professor Dr. Anjila Gupta of the MBA Department of Jamshedpur Women’s University.

The event the university’s pioneering step toward promoting dignity, equality, and social recognition for the transgender community while spreading awareness about positive social change. The initiative highlighted the importance of empathy, inclusion, and support for marginalised sections of society.

The programme was made possible through the voluntary efforts of the Jamshedpur Women’s University family, providing a platform for members of the transgender community who are often socially excluded.

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by vibrant cultural performances. Gifts were distributed, and members of the transgender community also participated in a fashion show, adding colour and enthusiasm to the celebration.

Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) Dr. Kishwar Ara and Proctor Dr. Sudhir Sahu delivered inspiring addresses during the programme. A one-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack.

Among the distinguished guests present were Registrar Dr. Salomi Kujur, CVC Dr. Annapurna Jha, Dr. Nupur Minj, Dr. Manisha Titus, Dr. Kamini Kumari, Dr. Rizwana Parveen, Dr. Anamika, and Dr. Madhuri Priyadarshini, along with faculty members from the Department of Vocational Development.

The programme concluded with feedback from Sanjana Kinnar. The event was anchored by Dr. Keya Banerjee and Gagandeep, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Shweta Prasad. Dr. Bharti Varshney, MBA students, and faculty members from various departments were also present and contributed to making the event a success.
