Jamshedpur Winter Fest aims to bring city on tourist map of India

Four-month cultural explosion of music, dance, food, sports begins Nov 5
Jamshedpur: It started as a Carnival Parade five years back but now with fun-filled cultural explosion of music, dance, food and sports, the annual fest of the Steel city has taken the shape of ‘Jamshedpur Winter Fest’.

With series of events lined up during the four month extravaganza starting with Jamshedpur Run on 5th November, 2017, the winter fest will add distinct flavour of festivities and vibrancy with the spirit of Jamshedpur during the winter season.
‘Jamshedpur Winter Fest is in its fifth year and it has changed a lot with events increasing every year. It started with a carnival parade from Jubilee Park to Gopal Maidan but with increasing number of events it has become bigger than ever’, said Ashish Mathur, managing director, Jusco.

Addressing a press conference at Jusco premises on Friday, Mathur said, ‘Jamshedpur’s stature is increasing in the sporting arena with our very own Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC) and AITA-Men’s Lawn Tennis Tournament scheduled from 10th to 17th November. Tata Open Golf and Steel City Golf tournaments are the annual events held in the city’.

He further said that this Fest is a platform for our budding local artists to showcase their talent and also rub shoulders with renowned celebrities. ‘Our main aim is to bring Jamshedpur in the tourist map of India and to show the country and the world what the Steel city posses of’, Mathur added.

‘We are writing articles about Jamshedpur and the annual winter fest and soon it will be published in leading travel magazines so that Jamshedpur finds its place in the tourist map of India’, informed Kulvin Suri, Chief, Corporate Communications, Tata Steel.
Suri said that winter is a great time to reposition Jamshedpur and soon a website will be launched regarding the sightseeing in city and around and also promote trekking in Dalma with the support of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).
The fest is four glorious months of music, cuisine, and revelry which starts with Jamshedpur Run on November 5 and concludes March 4 with Indian Super League match at the JRD Stadium.

Giving detailed information about the events lined up, Suri said, after the Jamshedpur Run, Mushaira will be held on November 9 at Dhatkidih community centre, this will be followed by AITA Men’s Lawn tennis Tournament from 10th to 17th November at beldih and United Club, celebrity Golf tournament on 10th November at Beldih and Golmuri Golf Course, Samvaad from 15th to 18th November at Gopal Maidan, Astaad Daboo Nite on 17th November at fasy Auditoirum, Loyola School, Ranchi Literary Meet at Ranchi and Jamshedpur from 30th November to 2nd December, Coin Exhibition from 8th to 10th December at Indian Red Cross Society, World Disability Day on 3rd December at Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Jam @ Streets on November 12, Tata Open Golf from 13th to 17th December, 2017 at Golmuri Golf Course, Sa Re Ga Ma on 19th December, Jamshedpur Carnival Parade from Jamsetji Statue at Jubilee Park and finish at Gopal Maidan on December 18, Dance Fest at Gopal Maidan on December 18, Colours of India at Gopal Maidan on December 20, Rock Show on 19th December at Gopal Maidan, Mega Musical Evening on 21st December at Gopal Maidan, Food Festival cum Master Chef Competition from 18th to 21st December at Gopal Maidan, Flower Show from 23th to 27th December at the Gopal Maidan, Dog Show from 5th to 7th January 2018 at Hockey Ground, JRD sports complex, Steel City Golf from 19th to 21st January 2018 at golf courses of Beldih & Golmuri apart from this Indian Super league matches will continue from December 1st 2017 to March 4th 2018 at JRD Stadium, Suri informed. Also present at the press conference were Jamshedpur Hoteliers Association members, Jusco and Tata Steel officials and others.
