Heat wave alert withdrawn as temperatures dip in Jharkhand
Jamshedpur: Residents woke up to a partly cloudy sky and dry weather on Monday, bringing slight relief from the soaring temperatures recorded a day earlier. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ranchi has officially withdrawn the heat wave alert as maximum temperatures witnessed a decline.
Heat wave conditions prevailed in several pockets of the state on Sunday, with Jamshedpur experiencing the highest recorded maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in the steel city was a staggering seven degrees above normal, making it one of the hottest places in the state.
Similarly, Chaibasa in West Singhbhum saw the mercury touching 39.8 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees above the seasonal average. Other districts, including Ranchi and Bokaro, recorded maximum temperatures hovering around 36 degrees Celsius today, indicating a marginal drop in heat intensity compared to previous days.
Weather officials cited satellite imagery, which indicated the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and south Haryana at an altitude of 1.5 km above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation was detected over northwest Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining areas at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
According to IMD officials, the combination of these weather systems contributed to the dip in temperature, thereby reducing the intensity of the prevailing heat wave conditions. However, dry conditions are expected to persist in most parts of the state, with no significant precipitation forecast in the coming days.
The withdrawal of the heat wave alert comes as a relief to residents, who have been experiencing unusually high temperatures for mid-March. The sudden spike in temperature had led to discomfort, prompting people to take precautionary measures such as staying indoors during peak afternoon hours and increasing water intake to prevent dehydration.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor weather patterns closely, especially with the summer season approaching. The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.
As Jharkhand braces for the summer months ahead, weather experts emphasize the importance of staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to mitigate heat-related health risks.
