Jamshedpur, September 18: Cyber criminals defrauded Awadhesh Kumar, a resident of Chhota Govindpur, of ₹31,459 by pretending to be an NGO associated with the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The scam occurred between August 18 and 20, 2024.
According to an FIR lodged in Bistupur Cyber Police Station, Awadhesh Kumar received a call on August 18 from a number claiming to be an Ayushman Bharat NGO. The caller alleged that Kumar’s mobile number was registered on a Russian website and was banned in India. To resolve the issue, Kumar was instructed to pay ₹350 for a form. He transferred the amount to an account belonging to Govind Yadav.
On August 20, the scammers asked for additional payments, claiming that sending more money would remove his number from the banned site. Kumar sent payments in multiple transactions totaling ₹31,459. Upon realizing he had been deceived, Kumar reported the incident to the authorities.
