Jamshedpur, Sept 8: The appointment of the new East Singhbhum District Congress President has sparked intense controversy within the party. On Tuesday, hundreds of Congress workers staged a peaceful protest at Gandhi Ghat near Mango Bridge, accusing the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) of violating the guidelines of the party’s “Organization Creation Campaign.”
According to party members, the Central High Command had appointed an observer to collect opinions from grassroots workers, supporters and community leaders at the block and panchayat levels. The observer was to submit a prioritized list of potential candidates for district president, based on which the final selection would be made. However, workers alleged that this democratic process was ignored, and an individual not even included in the observer’s list was appointed under pressure from certain MLAs and ministers.
Leading the protest, District Vice President Bablu Jha stated that the observer’s report for East Singhbhum was completely overlooked and that a person serving as a state observer for another district during the selection period was instead chosen as district president. He demanded that the party make the observer list public to ensure transparency.
Jha warned that if the list was not released soon, the movement would intensify, holding State In-charge K. Raju and State President Keshav Mahato Kamlesh responsible for any consequences. Protesters, including District Secretaries Ajitesh Ujjain, Azam Safi Badshah and Shamim Gaddi, emphasized that their agitation was driven by concern for the organization’s integrity. Meanwhile, social media was abuzz with speculation about the red car the newly appointed president arrived in—a question many believed symbolized deeper political influence behind the controversial decision.
