Jamshedpur Nursery admission lottery results on January 17; anxiety runs high among parents

Jamshedpur: This Saturday is set to be an anxious and emotional day for thousands of families in Jamshedpur as the fate of young children seeking nursery and entry-level admissions in private schools will be decided through the lottery system. With results scheduled to be declared on January 17, parents are eagerly waiting to see whether their child secures a seat or faces a longer wait.

For many families, this lottery marks the first major step in a child’s educational journey. Hopes, future plans, and months of preparation now hinge on a single list, a number, or a click on a school website.

Heavy rush for limited seats

This year witnessed exceptionally high demand for nursery, LKG, and UKG admissions across the city. Around one lakh applications were received for nearly 8,500 seats in about 40 private schools, reflecting intense competition and growing pressure on urban school infrastructure.

Lottery process completed under supervision

The lottery process, which began on January 5, concluded on January 15. The first phase was held at schools in Golmuri and Kadma, followed by lotteries across other institutions as per a fixed schedule. According to the education department, the maximum number of lotteries was conducted on January 9 and January 12.

Officials said the entire process was carried out under strict supervision to ensure transparency and fairness. Education department representatives were present during the draw, and all schools followed uniform guidelines.

Results to be declared online and offline

Most private schools will publish the lottery results online on their official websites, while several institutions will also display the selected students’ names on school notice boards for parents’ convenience.

According to available information, results will begin appearing as early as 4 am, with different schools releasing lists at staggered times throughout the day, ranging from early morning to afternoon.

Limited schools to issue second list

Only about five per cent of schools are expected to release a second selection list. Schools where second lists are usually issued will notify parents through their notice boards and official websites. For the majority of institutions, however, admission will be finalised with the first list itself.

Documents required at the time of admission

Parents of selected children will be required to submit the following documents during admission:

  • Passport-size photograph of the child
  • Original birth certificate
  • Aadhaar card of the parent or guardian
  • Employment proof if the parent works with Tata Steel or any other company
  • Child’s Aadhaar card (if available; otherwise to be submitted later)

As the countdown to January 17 begins, households across Jamshedpur are bracing for a tense but decisive day—one that could shape the earliest chapter of a child’s academic future.
