Jamshedpur: Nine-year-old boy sent to Child Welfare Committee for raping 7 year old

Jamshedpur : A nine-year-old boy has been sent to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Jamshedpur for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in a government-run school at Bagbera where both used to study. The police investigated the case and finally claimed it to be a fake case.

The OC, Bagbera police station LaxmanPaswan called in the parents and guardians of both the victim and accused. He spoke to the victim and accused and also their parents before finally arriving at a conclusion that the allegations were baseless.

“We had received complaint of alleged rape on Sunday night. We first probed it and found the complaint baseless. As both the victim and accused read in the same school and neighbours, we suspected it to be fake case. Later during interrogation of the guardians of the girl, we found that someone from the girl’s family had made such allegation after the two children had clashed at their school on Saturday morning,” said Paswan.

The OC, however, said that as it was matter involving two children, they referred it to the CWC, Jamshedpur today for further probe and necessary guideline.
Paswan said the victim is a Class- II student of a Bagbera-based government school, and the accused is a class IV student of the same school.

The girl has no parents and she stays with her grandparents at Harharguttu in Bagbera. The accused who is the next door neighbour of the victim stays with his parents. Both, the children were sent to CWC, Jamshedpur along with their parents and guardians.

CWC, chairperson, PushpaTirkey confirmed that two children – a girl and a boy, was sent by the Bagbera thana after an allegation of rape of the girl lodged there on Sunday night.

Cases of rape of minors and molestation of women are on the rise in the steel city. Several cases of heinous crime have been reported for fringe areas.

During the past one month, six cases of rape and five cases of molestation have been reported with the Parsudih and Babgera police stations areas alone.

The situation has fast changed in our city. Women are not feeling safe now. Steps need to be taken to ensure their protection. I am of the opinion that failure of police in arresting rape accused and people’s reluctance to file FIR regarding rape are some of the factors behind rising molestation cases, Alpna Chakravarty says, an activist working for NGO.

We need to hold discussions in high schools and colleges, in forums where films are screened and discussed. We need to have women police arrest men who harass women, said the social worker.
