Ranchi/Jamshedpur, Dec 1:Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has firmly stated that his fight against corruption will continue undeterred, dismissing what he termed as exaggerated media interpretations of a recent Jharkhand High Court order related to a case filed by him.
In a statement issued on Monday, Roy said that some newspapers reported the High Court’s recent decision in a manner suggesting it was against him, whereas the facts were entirely different.
He clarified that he had approached the High Court after former health minister Banna Gupta—whose alleged corruption he had exposed using departmental documents—was “using the full might of the government” to have him arrested.
Roy recalled that the High Court had earlier granted him protection by directing that no coercive action be taken against him.
Subsequently, he secured bail in the case, making the previous order redundant. It was on this basis, he said, that the court withdrew the earlier directive, a procedural step with “no adverse impact” on him.
Explaining the genesis of the dispute, Roy said the state cabinet had approved an incentive equal to one month’s salary for Covid-19 frontline workers who risked their lives during the pandemic.
However, as health minister, Banna Gupta allegedly prepared a bill to claim the incentive for himself and sent it to the treasury.
Roy further alleged that Gupta forwarded the names of 60 individuals—including his personal secretary and staff of his office—for the incentive, an act Roy described as “indicative of corrupt conduct.”
He said that after he exposed these documents, the Health Department, under Gupta’s pressure, registered an FIR against him accusing him of stealing departmental papers.
The case filed by the department is still ongoing.
“Today, the situation is such that the corrupt get a free pass, while those who expose corruption are booked,” Roy said.
He reaffirmed that he will not be intimidated and that his anti-corruption campaign will continue as before.
