Jamshedpur: Panic gripped the Kashidih Line No. 10 area under Sakchi police station limits on Wednesday morning after two unidentified bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman who was on her way to offer prayers.
The victim, Anita Choudhary, said she was heading towards the Ganesh temple located behind her house when two youths on a speeding motorcycle approached her. Before she could react, the pillion rider swiftly snatched the gold chain from her neck. The incident happened so quickly that she did not even get a chance to raise an alarm.
After committing the crime, the accused fled the spot. On receiving information from local residents, Sakchi police reached the scene and began an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being examined.
Police said efforts are on to identify and arrest the culprits. The rising incidents of chain snatching in the area have triggered anger and a sense of insecurity among residents. Locals have demanded increased police patrolling and strict action against the criminals.
