Jamshedpur: The city was immersed in the colours and festive mood of Ram Navami since morning. Flag worship and Kanya Puja were marked in almost all akharas of the city.

Slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bajrangbali ki Jai’ rent the air adding zest to the festive mood.

Devi Ma’s Maha Navami prayers were offered in Akharas and several pandals. A solemn atmosphere prevailed as mantras were recited and later the devotees offered Pushpanjali.

Bhog was served among devotees after the Navami prayers and in some akharas and pandals after Kanya Puja.

The Akharas started taking out processions with the onset of the evening.

However, a relentless sun that beat down could not sag the spirit of revellers and devotees.

40 feet tall flags were taken out by some Akharas.

Among the physical and gymnastic feats performed by members of the Akharas in the procession, the stick, spear, sword and tube-light mock fights were breathtaking.

Huge crowds gathered to cheer on the Akharas as they marched by in processions.

Many Akharas took out floats depicting the various gods and goddesses as also events from The Ramayana and other religious scriptures.

It may be mentioned here that in several non-company areas, power supply was cut off during the procession fearing that the tall flags could cause mishaps.

The Avenue Mail’s roving camera caught some of the major and sensational Akhara procession that we are sharing with you.
