Jamshedpur Half Marathon offers Rs 9.2 lakh prize purse, 2200 registered so far, jersey & route maps unveiled

Jamshedpur, Nov 20: Tata Steel is organizing half marathon to promote health and fitness among residents of the Steel City. The 10th edition of the Tata Steel Jamshedpur Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 30, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Tata Steel MD T.V. Narendran will be the chief guest and will flag off the run. With a total prize purse of ₹9.2 lakh, top performers across all categories will be recognised for their endurance and excellence, said D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel.

The Tata Steel Sports Department unveiled the official event T-shirt and route maps for different race categories during a press conference at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday in presence of Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports, Tata Steel; Hemant Gupta, Head, Sports Academies, Tata Steel and officials from Corporate Communications.

This year’s event will include races of 21K (Half Marathon), 10K, 5K and 2K.

Tata Steel VP said that earlier the company used to organize the Jamshedpur Run, a 10-km race but the event has expanded into a full-scale half marathon introduced for the first time in 2024 to encourage wider participation and competitive running. He added that prizes will be awarded to the top performers across all categories.

Sundara Raman informed that the previous edition saw participation from 4,500 runners. This year, 2,200 participants have registered so far of which 25 percent are women.

He expressed confidence that registration numbers would rise significantly in the final week, potentially exceeding last year’s turnout.

Hemant Gupta said it is a matter of pride that local runners are now competing in major marathons across India and abroad, including events in New York, Boston, New Delhi, and Mumbai. He noted that such progress reflects the growing running culture in Jamshedpur.

Gupta also highlighted that, keeping women’s participation in mind, Tata Steel Sports department also organised SHE-Run on November 15, which saw 50 women runners participate. In addition, a dedicated hydration and nutrition session was conducted on November 19 by Dr Vibha Acharya, Sports Nutritionist, High Performance Centre, Tata Steel Foundation, which will help runners with guidance on pre and post-race preparation. He said the initiative has boosted confidence among women runners, and higher participation is expected this year from both men and women.

This year’s marathon carries forward the milestone theme “Dil Se Daud for Jamshedpur,” celebrating a decade of collective passion, pride, and community spirit.

Tata Steel aims to make the Jamshedpur Half Marathon one of the region’s most prominent fitness events, inspiring people of all ages to adopt healthy lifestyles.
