Jamshedpur, Sept. 28: Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City on Friday provided two pink auto rickshaws to Roshni, a NGO working for women empowerment, during a programme organised at a city hotel.
Chief Guest for the occasion was National Employment Programme (NEP) director Ranjana Mishra and guest of honour was Subodh Kumar, ADM (Law & Order), East Singhbhum jointly handed over the keys of the pink autos to President of Roshni Prabha Devi and secretary Radha Singh. Later, the auto rickshaws were flagged off by showing pink flags.
The event was held on the direction of social worker Smita Parikh. Her company Utkal Automobiles under its CSR activity provided the margin money to purchase the autos. It is the result of Smita Parikh’s hard work and determination that for the very first time women will drive pink autos in Jamshedpur roads.
On the occasion Prabha Devi and Radha Singh informed that they have been working on pink auto project for the last one year. At first survey of over 600 women from various locations of Jamshedpur was done of which 30 women showed interest and 20 women were selected in the first phase. They were imparted one month training and their license was also made available. Six women will be directly provided jobs of running two pink autos. They informed that many more pink autos will hit Jamshedpur roads.
Auto drivers Puja Sandil, Nibha Kumari, Sumita Devia, Pyari Roz Mary, Savita Kerai, Neelam Devi, Pushpa Toppo will run the pink vehicles.
Present on the occasion were members of the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City along with President Hetal Adesara.
