Jamshedpur: In a major step toward social inclusion, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) will construct the city’s first community center dedicated to the transgender community. JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar announced that the facility will be built in Shastrinagar, Kadma, at a cost of ₹24.87 lakh.
The project has reached a milestone after receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Tata Steel, clearing the path for construction. This will be the first government-backed building of its kind in the city, providing a permanent space for the transgender community.
A Hub for Skill Development and Empowerment
The administration aims to complete the construction within six months. Beyond serving as a meeting place, the building will function as a center for skill development and vocational training to help community members secure better livelihood opportunities.
“The transgender community had been demanding a community building for a long time. Now that we have received the NOC from Tata Steel, we are bringing this plan to life. Construction will begin shortly.” — Krishna Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, JNAC.
