Jamshedpur: In the wake of the possibility of a third Covid wave, Tata Main Hospital ( TMH) has decided to come with special corona wards for children. The leading health hub is studying the overall scenario and will come up with appropriate actions from time to time.
During a telephonic media interaction, Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, and former general manager, medical services, Tata Steel said that with reports suggesting impact on children during the third wave they are focusing on facilities for children. He said the hospital is acting proactively to strengthen facilities, so the situation could be handled in the best possible way.
“We have decided to come up with special corona wards for children in order to combat the impact of the third wave. The focus is on maximum beds with oxygen and air conditioning. We are also closing down two wards G1 and G2 for renovation. This is a part of our strategy for the third wave,” Dr Choudhry.
He reiterated that the second wave is showing a downward trend. The Covid-19 positivity rate has reduced to 18.53 per cent in the last three days. In the last three days 64 patients were admitted. The deaths at the hospital have also reduced to 24 in the last three days with 8 deaths per day. Out of 24 deaths, 20 were from East Singhbhum and four were from Seraikela Kharsawan. The recovery rate has improved to 79.13 per cent. The hospital has completed 56,372 vaccinations so far. TMH has placed a fresh order of 30,000 with Serum Institute for Covishield.
Dr Choudhry informed that 130 health staff members have been hit by the virus comprising 17 doctors and 41 nurses, 23 para medics, 47 support staff.
He noted that even after vaccination, one must continue to follow COVID-19 appropriate behavior including wearing of mask, hand sanitisation, social distancing and avoid crowded places. The hospital is operating 591 Covid beds out of these 441 beds at TMH. At present 210 beds are occupied
