Home Voting initiative lauded as 95% voters cast their ballots in Jamshedpur 1

Jamshedpur: As the Lok Sabha elections 2024 approach, the Election Commission of India has introduced a provision for elderly voters (85+) and disabled voters to vote through home voting. In line with this initiative, District Election Officer Ananya Mittal took charge of monitoring home voting in the 49-Jamshedpur West Assembly Constituency.

Mittal personally visited the homes of elderly voters, including  Abha Rani Panda from Subhash Colony, Dimna Road, and Bedamo Devi from Bankuthnagar, Road No. 3, Mango. His aim was to boost their enthusiasm and encourage them to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing the pivotal role they play as vigilant sentinels of democracy. Both elderly voters were honored with rose flowers and voter coffee mugs as tokens of appreciation.

Accompanied by Deputy Development Commissioner  Manish Kumar, DTO  Dhananjay, Home Voting Nodal  Mujaid Ansari, and District Public Relations Officer  Panchanan Oraon,  Mittal ensured that the entire home voting process was smooth and efficient. Senior voters expressed their happiness upon completing the voting process.

During the visit,  Mittal also motivated the family members of elderly voters to cast their votes at the polling booth on May 25th. He appealed to them to take 25 additional people with them to the polling booth, emphasizing the significance of every vote in strengthening democracy.

A total of 226 voters in the district had applied for home voting, with the voting scheduled to take place from 14th to 18th May 2024. Within just three days, an impressive 95 percent of the home voting electorate had already exercised their right to vote, reflecting the success of the initiative and the enthusiasm of voters to participate in the democratic process.

In a bid to ensure inclusiveness, voters aged 85 and above, as well as those with at least 40 percent disability, across all six assembly constituencies, will have the opportunity to cast their votes through postal ballots via home voting. This process spans across the first phase from May 14 to 19 and the second phase from May 21 to 22.
