Jamshedpur: The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi Meteorological Centre has forecasted significant rainfall across various parts of Jharkhand over the next few days. The weather patterns, driven by persistent low-pressure systems, are set to impact both northeastern and southeastern regions of the state.

Today’s satellite imagery indicates that the well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal remains stable and continues to influence weather patterns across Jharkhand. This low-pressure system is anticipated to move west-northwestwards, affecting Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and adjacent north Odisha within the next 24 hours.
The monsoon trough, a key factor in determining rainfall patterns, is currently extending from Jaisalmer through a depression center over East Rajasthan, continuing through Guna, Sidhi, and Daltonganj. It then extends to the well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal before moving southeast to the northeast Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, the northeastern parts of Jharkhand can expect heavy rainfall today. This is due to the ongoing influence of the low-pressure system, which has already brought significant precipitation to the region.
Looking ahead, heavy rain is anticipated to continue affecting the southeastern parts of Jharkhand tomorrow, August 28. The persistent low-pressure area will contribute to this increased rainfall, leading to potential disruptions in daily activities and posing risks of localized flooding.
The meteorological experts also predict the formation of a new low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around August 29. This new system is likely to enhance rainfall activities further and may contribute to the continuation of heavy rains across Jharkhand and surrounding regions.
