Heavy rain in Odisha disrupts train movement on Howrah-Mumbai line

Jamshedpur : Train services on the Howrah-Mumbai via Tatanagar route were disrupted on second day too after heavy rain clogged in Bilaspur division of South East Central Railway. Railway authorities said several areas in Odisha were under water, all trains coming from Mumbai and Pune had to be diverted and were running several hours late.

�We had no choice but to cancel two passenger trains and authorities are making efforts to accommodate the passengers on the alternative trains,� said an official.

All important trains on the up line are running several hours behind schedule as they are stranded at different junctions, on the Howrah-Mumbai line, while the trains scheduled to leave on the down line via Tatanagar are either running on diverted route or have been terminated midway.

The Mumbai- Howrah Geetanjali Express, Mumbai- Howrah Mail, Pune- Howrah Azad Hind Express, Kurla- Howrah Express and Mumbai-Howrah Jnanaeswari Super Deluxe Express, among other passenger trains were affected Train services were suspended in both Up and Dn lines of Jharsuguda- Raigarh section of South East Central Railway since late last evening and as a result, all up and down trains are getting delayed while some are running on diverted routes.

According to railway officials, over half-a-dozen Up trains in the Howrah-Mumbai route have been diverted. The trains running on the diverted route include Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, Shalimar-LTT Express, Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express, Howrah-CSTM Mumbai Mail, Howrah-Porbandar Express and Howrah-Ahmedabad Express.

All these trains pass through Tatanagar in the night. Railway officials at Tatanagar said that last night the Up trains from Howrah reached here ( Tatanagar) on its scheduled time but they were diverted from Jharsuguda.

The Dn trains which were scheduled to arrive Howrah/ Shalimar today travelling via Tatanagar were running on a diverted route via Raipur-Titlagarh-Jharsuguda. The trains which included LTT-Howrah Jnaneshwari Express, Mumbai-Howrah Geetanjali Express, Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express, Mumbai-Howrah Mail, Ahmedabad-Howrah Express and LTT-Shalimar Express were running late by more than 10 hours.

Railway authorities at Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway said that some of the Up trains which left Howrah yesterday were running on diverted route via Jharsuguda-Titlagarh- Raipur and will reach their destinations much beyond the scheduled time.
