Heavy rain hits steel city, more showers expected in 24 hours

Jamshedpur : Several parts of the state including steel city(jamshedpur) and Ranchi received heavy rain during the last 24 hours due to the cyclonic circulation which intensified into a low pressure.

The good news is that the rain god is expected to shower its generous bounty for another 24-hours, said an afternoon bulletin issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre.

“Yesterday’s low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and neighborhood now lies over Northeast Jharkhand and adjoining areas with an associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 4.5 Km above sea level.

Southwest monsoon is active over Gangetic W.Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand and this will result in a good spell of rain in another 24-hours or so,” said a duty officer at the Patna Meteorological Centre.

The Met official said that they have also issued a warning of heavy rain over isolated places in Jharkhand during the next 24-hours. The axis of monsoon trough today passes through Ganganagar, Karnal, Meerut, Balia, the centre of low pressure and extends upto the north Bay of Bengal extending upto 1.5 Km above sea level.

The active monsoon coupled with the low pressure resulted in moderate to heavy rain at various places over the state during the last 24-hours.

While Jamshedpur received over 60 mm of rain, Ranchi recorded around 42 mm of rain . Data revealed that Tilaiya in Hazaribagh district topped the rain chart with 90 mm of rain . This was followed by Chandil in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district which experienced rainfall of around 80 mm.

Latehar district and Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum district also experienced a downpour of 70 mm during the past 24-hours due to the impact of the low pressure. The IMD observatories in Chatra, Daltonganj and Hazaribagh recorded 50 mm of rain. Ramgarh and Jamtara recorded 30 mm of rain while Bokaro and Dumka witnessed over 20 mm of rain. The Met observatories in about 20 other places including Dhanbad recorded 10 mm of rain during the last 24-hours.

The Ranchi Meteorological Centre and the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore in Calcutta in its evening bulletin predicted rain at many places over Jharkhand with heavy rainfall at a few isolated places in the next 24-hours
