Godda: A group of armed men attempted a brazen daylight robbery at the Bank of India branch in the Mahagama area on Monday, but the courageous resistance of a security guard and the quick thinking of bank staff foiled their plans.
The Attack at Kenchua Chowk
Four armed assailants stormed the bank branch at Kenchua Chowk, firing at least two rounds into the air to terrorize customers and employees. The situation turned violent when the criminals attempted to snatch the service weapon from the bank’s security guard, Vinod Kumar Singh.
Singh resisted the assailants in a physical scuffle, during which the robbers shot and injured him. Emergency responders rushed Singh to Sadar Hospital, where doctors currently list him in stable condition.
Alert Staff Activate Emergency Protocols
While the struggle occurred at the entrance, the bank manager and staff acted instantly:
- Alarm Triggered: The team activated the emergency alarm system, alerting the surrounding area.
- Lockdown: Staff promptly secured the locker section and blocked all access to the cash counters.
- Robbers Flee: Faced with a high-decibel alarm and a locked-down vault, the criminals realized they could not access any valuables and fled the scene while firing warning shots.
Police Launch Manhunt Near Bihar Border
The Mahagama police cordoned off the area immediately following the incident. Under the supervision of the station-in-charge, police teams are conducting raids across nearby localities and scrutinizing CCTV footage to identify the four suspects.
Investigators are paying close attention to the Bihar border, as criminals frequently use the interstate boundary to evade Jharkhand authorities. In response to the bid, the police department has increased surveillance and deployed additional personnel across the region to protect financial institutions.
